New Venture? April 14, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — papermadejourney @ 9:27 pm

So I have decided to try something a bit different. I have decided to take a course on how to do Nails. Focusing on Gel Nails. I have really enjoyed having mine done and I think it would be something that would be fun to learn how to do. My plan is to have a part of my Basement dedicated to this new venture. We have an unfinished basement and making a corner of it my little studio shouldn’t be an issue. My course will be starting in May and will be finishing in June. So if you live in Langley,BC or surrounding area come by and pay me a visit :)

Clipper Chicks Rock! April 14, 2008

Filed under: Random Ramblings — papermadejourney @ 3:04 am

I can honestly say I have never worked with a nicer group of people.Last night, we got together at work to have a crop. For those of you that don’t scrapbook that is when a group gets together to scrapbook/craft:)The occasion was to welcome Amie back and to see her wedding pictures.Which were stunning.I have attached a couple of pictures that Eleonor insisted we take.

In the crazy picture we were all supposed to make a funny face–you will notice some did not join in the silliness which made the rest of us look even nuttier. No we do not drink at these get togethers ;)

Hug a Stay-at-Home Mom today April 10, 2008

Filed under: Kids — papermadejourney @ 5:21 pm

I was just visiting a scrapbooking messageboard today and read an interesting post. The Poster described how she constantly has to justify her role as a SAHM. Having felt this way myself reading this post made me angry. If you pick up a newspaper today you are bombarded with stories of violence, and general disfunction. So why should a woman who has devoted her life to staying at home with her child be made to feel as though she is not a contributing member of society? Is that woman not actually working to better her community by raising a happy, healthy, functioning member of society? I like to think of it as planting a tree. You do not see the true benefits until the tree is more mature.

I have encountered a wide variety of reactions to my decision to be a SAHM. There are those that applaud my choice and acknowledge it is not all fun and games. There are those that feign interest and end up being merely condescending. I have heard it all.

If you are reading this and are a member of the outside-of-the-home workforce please do me a favour. Realize that just because we stay at home with our kids does not mean that all conversations have to revolve around our little anklebiters, that we have dreams and goals outside of motherhood. Above all respect us and our decisions.

Random Randomness April 10, 2008

Filed under: Random Ramblings — papermadejourney @ 5:20 am

I find myself using this word a lot on the blog–random. I think it describes me well at times. This is going to be a CRAZY busy week ahead.

Checklist for the week:

  • Tomorrow visit the Hospital for Pre-Admission stuff.I am having a partial hysterectomy on Wednesday and there is stuff to do tomorrow. Many question this decision at 31 but I am truly done having children and have constant pelvic pain.Good decision in my books. The recovery time will not be a huge deal.I have experienced 2 c-sections before, I am a pro :)
  • Work tomorrow night.
  • Finish some stuff for work.
  • Finish some other scrappy related stuff I need completed.
  • Evan has Picture Day at school tomorrow. We went tonight and he picked out a new outfit.Hopefully he smiles tomorrow.
  • Saturday we are getting together after the store closes and having a Crop. One of our co-workers just got hitched in Australia and we need to see pictures, eat good eats and get crafty :)
  • Sunday I work all day and Scott will be taking Evan to a Birthday Party.
  • Monday and Tuesday I plan on cooking, freezing, cooking, freezing meal after meal.I figure this will be mucho handy after I get home from the Hospital.

Why do we watch Big Brother Live on Sho Time? Really it is such a waste of time. But yet we watch? Must be a voyeuristic thing?

Looking forward to getting some work done in the yard. We are having Demeter Construction come in and build a Cedar Arbor in the back patio area. I am so excited, it will add some privacy and some warmth back there. We are also thinking about having the company do some other projects. All in good time.

Already thinking about planning our next Vacation. Evan wants to go to North Carolina to visit Lowes Raceway. Yes, folks we are a family that likes Nascar and dang proud of it ;) This rainy weather is driving me batty–rain rain go away…

Well enough randomness for now. Contemplating going to bed. Although Big Brother is still on?

Smelly Washer? April 9, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — papermadejourney @ 4:56 am

When we moved into this house two years ago we bought all new appliances. We thought we would try a High Efficiency Front Loading Washing Machine. It has been great except it is a challenge to keep clean.Over time it has come to smell kind of funky.I kept cleaning it as best I could and it still had an odour.I stumbled across a post on a messageboard and discovered Smelly Washer cleaner. It is a powder that you add to your Washing Machine.Let me tell ya it works!Thank goodness.I don’t usually order a lot online but I am so happy I did.It is pretty reasonably priced and will last a long time.

when it rains it pours… April 5, 2008

Filed under: Random Ramblings — papermadejourney @ 7:14 pm

but in a totally good way.For the longest time I had been short on ideas and figured the tap was turned off permanently.Lately, I have had so many ideas popping into my head. Not just scrapbooking inspiration but lots of good stuff. Now if I had unlimited time to play that would be awesome.

Busy weekend ahead for us. Today we need to figure out what we are doing with the 53 cedars we bought (long story), there is a birthday party @ 4p.m for the kids to go to.Scott wants to install a stone border along the plant bed out front and I work all day tomorrow.Tonight I also have to set aside time to finish off something for an upcoming class at work.

Oh and by the way–where in the heck is Spring? I am beginning to feel as though I was lured here under false pretenses. When I moved here 10+ years ago, this was Canada’s version of California weatherwise.Mild winters and great spring/summers.Yes, there was the rain/gloominess but it wasn’t a frigid miserable winter/spring like other parts of the Country. My how things have changed.Oh well things could always be worse. But I really do long for some sunshine and warm breezes.

just plain odd April 2, 2008

Filed under: Kids — papermadejourney @ 7:01 am

I have two small children and I have become a Kids TV program Expert. There are some that are so sweet (Max and Ruby,Franklin or Timothy Goes to School) and then there are the just plain ODD shows.

Here is the perfect example of odd http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggrOcBWqHiU

I just don’t get it?The songs drive me nuts. They seem to be just monotonous chants and repeat and repeat…Even the kids can’t stand it and can barely watch it.

Maybe I have a short memory but Kid’s programs when I was a kid weren’t as odd.Maybe they were and I just liked them anyway?
